Design Wall Carpet???

Was reading a post on 'Sew Me Something Good' blog about the lack of a design wall..

I dont have a design wall, and to be honest, a creative space.. At the moment I have taken over the sunroom, which is a very large 9x4m room (or about 33x15 ft for you non metric non 21st century peeps *W*) we have an eight seater table in there that we can't sit at, as it is covered, hmm maybe covered isn't strong enough a word, stacked-to-the-roof full of my 'craft crap' as dags calls it or my 'treasures I am still using sometime this millennium stuffs' as I prefer it to be known as..

I dont have a design wall.. or a wall I'd like to even put one on.. I have a design 'carpet'.. Now I can see you guys thinking, design wall carpet does have its drawbacks, but hey, the blocks dont fall off.. they might get walked on by a bastard cat from time to time, but I thought I could live with that until....

My usual trick is when I have laid something out, I like to take a pic or three and I can remember 'how' I did it.. of course with something as scrappy as this, you wouldn't do that, but I did want to take a pic to share with a net friend.. I went to get my camera, and when I come back.. well... hmmm if he wasn't so cute I would of strangled him.. I shoo'd him away.. and bits of my quilt were stuck to his fur.. so I was chasing him (which isn't easy to do when you are a fat blonde tart) and trying to rescue pieces of a quilt :O)) all the time the 'Beast' (aka eldest boy child) was laughing at me.. I am a constant amusement for my children! The funny thing was, Cosmo (aka the bastard cat) had bits stuck to his botty, and he kept sitting down trying to get the block off his botty whilst sitting on it.. he truly is a dumb blonde cat, lucky he is soooo cute or he'd be outta here!

Anyways.. the quilt I am working on.. Well I had what I thought was a great idea, why not make TWO quilts at once, if you are going to cut 2" strips for a 'worlds fair quilt with a pie border' why not cut heaps of strips of lots of fabric and make a postage stamp quilt too?? I mean, its only a little more work isn't it?? these are the ones I made yesterday, all 208 of the 4 patch units.. they go together pretty easy and this is about 1/4 of one quilt..

I am also at the same time cutting out tumbler blocks to swap with a dear friend of mine (who is lucky that she lives 1000kms away otherwise I'd annoy the poop out of her).. She has been a slacker and not even got the template yet but I have done the first swap already *W* I think she has been to busy surfing the net trying to tempt me with cheap fabric from the states!

Anyways, thats enough crap from me..

'til next time..

Lissa
PS Quilters aren't greedy, we're just materialistic! :O))

Yes I've been there aswell. Only in my case it's Stanley the 7 Stone Black lab that likes to 'help'.
At least your cat doesn't put his muddy paw prints on your nice clean quilt top.

love and hugs xxx

I might not be able to do it till September, after my trip to the States, but if you'd like to trade civil war repros, I'd love to do a tumbler block quilt too!!

Cute kitty...*LOL* and what a sight it must have been for your family members... *S*...but I think it´s a good idea to put up that Design Wall Carpet on the wall...so you can have your fantasitc pieces left alone!!! ;D Lissa...your new quilts will be wonderful...
Just a question...was it flannel on the pieces since it stuck soo well to the cat...??? *S*S*

I used to have the same problem when I had a cat and would try and knit.

The 'dang' cat would tear off with the ball of yarn.... UURRGHHH!!!

I'm practically wiping the tears from my eyes as I sit here laughing - I can just picture you chasing the crazy cat and trying to gather up your quilt pieces... you are too funny, Lisa!

Glad you got a shot of your quilting blocks without the furry sabatoger in the pic...the cat is awfully cute, but distracting me from viewing your handiwork. ;o)

I'm in heaven looking at all those fabrics, Lissa. Beautiful work! Thanks too for the laughs this morning. tee hee

Oh, how I laughed at your cat's antics!! I'm another one without a design wall -- and I generally use the bed as the spot to lay out blocks. I have learned, the hard way, to ensure no kitties are in the room and to close the door.

My cat does the same thing -- it's very annoying but what to do when, like you said, they're so darn cute. I love your little tumbling blocks scraps!

well I only giggled a little bit at the thought of you chasing the cat with fabric stuck to its bottie - I promise, just a little giggle.

I have a design floor too - I thought everyone did LOL.
Gosh, that cat sure is lucky it's cute, because that's worse than my kids, my DH (and his pesky visitor the other day) who just walk all over my stuff! I don't really believe in fighting gravity so design floor it it :-)
Loves PS quilts!

Ya I know. I don't have a design wall either. Not even a sewing room. Life with 4 kids, no room! lol. Love the tumblers.

Dibber dobber ok ok I have been slack! But we are in the repro's swap and I did have to find fabric for it!!! Promise no more tempting as I just end up tempting myself and we will hopefully get lots of different ones in the swap!

Moggie asked me to check on pusses welfare? She says she is glad for the puss that there were not pins in there.....she is thinking ouch.
I have told her there is no need to contact that cat preservation angels just yet but she did ask me to pass on a meow of sympathy.

Hi Lissa,
I'm enjoying your blog and fancy doing repro tumblers, too - what size are you doing?
Also, can you remember how to get the Squilters Logo, please - I've been trying through Bernadette, but have had no success.
Best wishes - Lurline.

My design wall is on the floor of the spare room!
Serves the purpose, just need to take care not to walk on it!

Hee-hee!!! I do have a studio but I only have a design floor too!!! I like using the floor even though it seems to just call everyone to walk and roll over (including our cat!!!)
LOVE your Ps too - HOW TRUE!!!!

that is so funny!!! (I mean, I am sorry to hear that your cat messed with your quilt. that's exactly why I don't have a cat. that and I don't need another mouth to feed!)

oh, and did I mention that I love your quilts??

Happy dance, happy dance...I have just reorganised my sewing room and allowed space to access a smallish wall area to use as a design wall. Just have to decide what to make it out of, and how I'll attach it. No more Minka doing the same mess up as your cat!

You are a stitch! Your cat is beautiful and can't help but be drawn to such a beautiful quilt. It's not his fault the pieces weren't attached. Your tumbler quilt is looking fabulous too.
